Comprehensive Guide to Botox

At Rachel Davis Aesthetics, our goal is to help you make informed decisions and feel confident about your Botox experience.  We are experts in natural-looking Botox results for individuals just like you.  Below we will cover some of the most common information regarding Botox.  Everything from the basics of Botox, its uses, the procedure, potential side effects, and more.

What is Botox?

Botox is the most popular aesthetic treatment on the planet.  PERIOD!  It has been used for over 21 years to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the upper facial region with amazing success.  From a scientific perspective, Botox is a purified protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.  The purified protein targets very precise areas of the face or facial muscles, more specifically, to create a more relaxed, youthful appearance.

Botox by the Numbers

How does Botox work?

Botox works by inhibiting the signals that tell muscles to contract.  When injected into specific muscles, it prevents them from contracting, allowing the overlying skin to remain smooth and wrinkle-free.  Once new skin cells are formed, and cell turnover is complete, the once noticeable lines and wrinkles begin to fade away.

Botox Uses and Applications

Botox has been called a "miracle drug" because of its many uses in the medical community.  From a medical perspective, Botox can treat everything from overactive bladder to chronic migraines.  However, at Rachel Davis Aesthetics, we use Botox for cosmetic purposes and are expert injectors, and have advanced training in facial anatomy to produce natural-looking results.

Currently, Botox is the only treatment in its class to have 3 separate cosmetic indications to treat Forehead lines, Frown lines (glabellar lines), and Crow's feet.  Other areas that advanced injectors can use Botox include the Bunny lines (nose wrinkles), Lip lines (smoker's lines), Chin dimpling, and Neckbands.

The Botox procedure: What to Expect

During a Botox treatment, our Master-Level Trained Injectors will first assess your needs and discuss your desired outcome.  This part of the process is imperative for creating natural-looking results that enhance your beauty.  Once a plan has been agreed upon, our medical providers will precisely target areas of the face by injecting Botox to produce the desired effect.  The treatment involves injecting small doses of Botox into pre-identified muscles using a fine needle.  The entire process is quick, usually taking 15 to 30 minutes, with minimal discomfort.  Most individuals can expect to see results within 3 to 7 days after the treatment.

Is Botox Safe?

As mentioned above, Botox is FDA-approved and has been approved for cosmetic use since 2002.  The treatment itself has a long track record of safety and efficacy.  However, like any aesthetic medical treatment, there are potential side effects.  The most common side effects we see include temporary bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site.  If you are concerned about this, then it is imperative you work with a knowledgeable aesthetic injector that has a deep understanding of facial anatomy and years of experience.  At Rachel Davis Aesthetics, we specialize in Botox treatments and have years of experience treating patients just like you!

Botox FAQ's

How long does Botox last?

Generally speaking, individuals can expect to see a range of duration from 3 – 6 months with an average duration of about 4 months.

How much does Botox cost?

Fun Fact:  All (legit) medical practitioners pay the exact same price for Botox from the manufacturer.  What patients pay for is the expertise of the injector treating them.  For a full understanding of "How much does Botox cost," click here.  (link to pay Membership)

Are there alternatives to Botox?

Yes!  It is quite an exciting time to be involved in medical aesthetics.  There are new products and treatments being brought to market all the time.  One alternative we offer is Dysport.  Click here for more information.

How soon can I return to my regular activities after a Botox treatment?

We prefer our patients refrain from any strenuous exercise for 24 hours.  Other than that, you can go back to work or school or pick up your kids and take them to soccer practice.  We will review more specific information post-treatment at your appointment.

“I have always been hesitant to try Botox, but after following Rachel Davis Aesthetics on Instagram for a while, I finally took the plunge. Rachel listened to my wishes (wanting to still be able to express emotion, wanting to keep a more 'natural' look, etc.) and the results just 1 week in have been awesome. I look more alert, makeup goes on smoother and generally just feel like my face is brighter. Rachel also helped come up with a game plan leading up to my wedding in August. 10/10 recommend!”
